Update: Driver Identified in Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Merrimac

MERRIMAC — Police Chief Eric M. Shears reports that the Merrimac Police Department has completed the required family notifications and is now releasing the name of the driver in Wednesday’s fatal single-vehicle crash on West Main Street.

The driver is identified as Richard A. Talbot, age 74, of Haverhill.

Police and fire responded to the area of 60 West Main St. at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, rescuers found that a 2013 gray Toyota Sienna, driven by Talbot, had been traveling East on West Main Street when the vehicle exited the roadway and crashed into a tree. Talbot was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“On behalf of the Merrimac Police Department, I wish to convey my most sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Talbot during this extremely difficult time,” Chief Shears said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Merrimac Police Department.
