Merrimac Police and Fire Respond to Single Vehicle Fatality

MERRIMAC — Police Chief Eric Shears and Fire Chief Larry Fisher report the Merrimac Police and Fire Departments responded to a single vehicle car crash early Saturday morning that resulted in one fatality.

Merrimac Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of 98 East Main St. at 4:55 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, the officer found a Chevy Silverado pick up truck rolled over on its roof, and observed an adult male, ejected from the driver’s side, laying face down next to the truck. The Merrimac Fire Department arrived on the scene to treat the victim and he was determined to be deceased as a result of his injuries.

Officers on the scene observed that the vehicle initially struck the guardrail on the front passenger side at 101 East Main St (Auto Alliance) and rolled, coming to rest on its roof on the guardrail by the Brox Company entrance.

The vehicle is registered to an address in Salisbury, MA. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of his family.

The accident remains under investigation by the Merrimac Police Department with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and State Police detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
