Merrimac Police Department Reminds Residents of Upcoming Town Election

Police Chief Eric Shears would like to remind residents of the upcoming Town Election next week.

The annual Town Election will be held on Monday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dr. Frederick N. Sweetsir School, 104 Church St.

On Monday, June 15, Town Meeting approved an override of Proposition 2 1/2 that would allow the hiring of two additional full-time officers to ensure that two members of the department are on duty at any given time. The additional officers would cost the average homeowner in Merrimac $88 per year in added property taxes.

Voters in the Town Election will have the final say in whether or not the override passes.

Those voting in person will be asked to wear a face mask or covering. Masks will be provided to those who do not have one. Voters should expect wait times while voting to ensure proper social distance guidelines are followed.

Absentee ballots should be dropped off at Town Hall, 2-8 School St., Merrimac, MA 01860. There is a mail slot for ballots at the front door of Town Hall. Ballots can also be dropped off at the polls. All ballots must be received before the polls close on June 22.
