Merrimac Police Respond to Construction Wall Collapse with Injuries

MERRIMAC – Police Chief Eric M. Shears reports that the Merrimac Police and Fire Departments responded to a home construction accident today where multiple people were injured after a wall collapsed.

Police received a 911 call just before 1 p.m. requesting assistance after a second-floor wall of a new home under construction at 17 Merrimac St. fell and crushed several workers.

Three people were injured and taken to area hospitals via ambulance. Their injuries are considered seriously but not life-threatening. A fourth worker sustained minor injures and declined medical treatment.

The Merrimac Building Inspector and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration are investigating the incident.

“We are very hopeful for a full and speedy recovery for the injured workers,” Chief Shears said. “At this time the exact cause of the collapse remains under investigation.”
